“We journalists make it a point to know very little about an extremely wide variety of topics; this is how we stay objective.”

Journalistic Endeavors

Well. I have an assignment for class and I am going to use this platform as a means to help complete this assignment. The assignment is this. This is the assignment. Assignment, this is.
I will be looking into the mystical, slightly superstitious, possibly a big load of hooey, but somehow always slightly accurate world of Astrological Signs. Yep. Leos, Libras, Virgos, Cancers, Capricorns and so on…I’m calling on you. I am conducting a search about those persons who use their astrological sign orientation and horoscopes to make decisions (mainly in the dating, career, personal relating arena) and to ask them, Why? On the other side I will also be asking non-believers, Why not? Personally I am in the middle of the road because sometimes descriptions of my personality via those huge “What does your sign say about you?” books are eerily correct, although my horoscope is horrific and laughably incorrect. But I digress.
The topic of the “new” astrological sign, Ophiuscus will be discussed and what kind of havoc it is wreaking for those who magically went from being a Leo, to a Cancer or what have you.
This could prove to be a very fun assignment, or it could prove to be majorly disastrous. All I know is that I need the help of a lot of people to make this thing work.
So! Please give me your input, ideas, thoughts or what have you and let’s make this story a reality.

Urk….

There aren’t enough hours in the day, to accomplish all the things I have to do. Never mind what I want to do. I am a woman of many passions (and always on the lookout for something new) so the things I enjoy doing develop into a necessity within themselves. I simply have to do them. Take writing for instance, I love it. I want to be a novelist. I have to fit it into my schedule. I’m a journalism major, I have to go to class and do the proper assignments. I recently started taking a hand-drawn animation course, I love to draw. I have to fulfill the requirements for that course. I’m also taking a fashion design course. Add 30 more required weekly drawings on top of what I already have to do. (I’ll probably merge ideas/projects/photos gained from those courses in this blog as well…even though they aren’t exactly word based.)
I give 100% (unless it’s a bad day) towards every project or course I take part in….well, willingly take part in. There simply isn’t enough hours in the day for all the things I want to do.
I don’t know how Leonardo Da Vinci did it….being multi-talented is very, hard work.

Music + Media + Man

That particular compilation is the story of Darrell Robinson, a junior, print journalism major from Clinton, Maryland. With a blog focusing on music and his weekend DJ experiences, Robinson has found a way to remix his passion for music, with his knowledge in journalism.
Q: Why a Print Journalism Major instead of a Music Major?
A: I have played an instrument most of my life, such as the saxophone or the piano, but I didn’t feel as if I was that good. Looking back now, I realize that I didn’t try hard enough. The musicians on television made it look easy and I thought they had a natural talent that I didn’t. Journalism was my fallback. In a perfect world, I would be a musician.
Q: Well since you are a Print Journalism major at Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications, how do you apply your media knowledge to music?
A: With journalism you have to be current, and that applies to being a DJ. The new song you heard on the radio, you must have. With journalism you have to know a little bit about a lot. With being a Dj, you must have music from everywhere.
Q: Flip the previous question around. How does your love for music influence your studies as a Print Journalist?
A: It gives me something to write and be passionate about. Writing about music makes my job fun. My Pops always told me that whatever you want to make sure you enjoy it, because you have to do it everyday.
Q: How do you plan on integrating your knowledge of journalism with your passion for music in the future?
A: My end-goal is to start a regional magazine that focuses on music. If I’m living in DC, it will be for the Delmarva area. If I’m in New York, it will be Harlem. It’ll be a Vibe kind of thing.
Q: What is your quote to live by?
A: My mom always told me, “You’re in charge of your own happiness.” If I’m having a bad day, I make it a better day. I do it all the time.
Q: If you had to pick a word, or a phrase to define a piece of who you are, what would it be?
A: Nice Guys Don’t Finish Last. It is my life goal to prove the other statement (nice guys finish last) untrue. It’s not easy though.
